Songs and Confessions of a One-Time Waitress: Saturday, November 12, 2011 Linda Lavin is a whole lot more than Alice the waitress/mom at Mel’s Diner in the award-winning hit series of the same name. However, it was the role of Alice that made Linda Lavin a household name and won for her two Golden Globes and an Emmy nomination. After Alice she went back to her Broadway roots and performed in a myriad of Broadway shows with many Broadway greats. She won a Tony, Helen Hayes, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Awards as Best Actress award for her starring role in “Broadway Bound” and three other Tony nominations for “Last of the Red Hot Lovers”, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, and “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife”. Ms. Lavin is a recent inductee into the American Theater Hall of Fame. She continues her theater work in NY and DC and is touring in “Confessions..." Also, she and her husband, Steve Bakunas, established and operate the Red Barn Theatre in Wilmington, NC where she produces, directs, and performs musicals and plays. What audiences are saying: "Lavin has the moves, the timing and always scores." - The New Yorker "Impeccable timing...the precision of a souffle chef." - Isabel Heblich, Wilmington Star News "If Leno and Letterman regularly scored this ratio of bits to quips, much of America would be hospitalized with late-night laughter burn." - Ben Bramley, New York Times |
